Small Business Innovation Research Program Provides Seed Funding for R&D
San Jose, California, June 5th, 2024 – YBVR has been awarded a National Science Foundation (NSF) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant for $998,251 to conduct research and development (R&D) work on revolutionizing the level of the VR training courses for remote students.
YBVR is taking the advantage of the grant to reinvent remote training participation into a fully immersive and interactive near real-life experience. Participants and coaches don’t need to travel anymore and still feel like they are together at the same location. This will be achieved by elevating YBVR’s existing streaming solution into a real-time, sub-second latency XR solution enabling premium video quality with interactive features and AI adaptability. The solution will be commercially available to enterprises, schools, medical institutes and others in a multi-device strategy including mobile phones, tablets, PC/Mac and for premium experiences on XR headsets.
“NSF is proud to support the technology of the future by thinking beyond incremental developments and funding the most creative, impactful ideas across all markets and areas of science and engineering,” said Andrea Belz, Division Director of the Division of Industrial Innovation and Partnerships at NSF. “With the support of our research funds, any deep technology startup or small business can guide basic science into meaningful solutions that address tremendous needs.”
“YBVR is redefining VR education for vocational and educational providers,” says Hector Prieto, Co-Founder and CEO at YBVR. “Our sub-second delay VR streaming technology allows for a new level of interactivity in seamless 8K quality delivery of real-time courses, bringing students closer to the action and creating a truly immersive learning experience.”
Small businesses with Phase II funding are eligible to receive up to $500,000 in additional matching funds with qualifying third-party investment or sales.
Startups or entrepreneurs who submit a three-page Project Pitch will know within one month if they meet the program’s objectives to support innovative technologies that show promise of commercial and/or societal impact and involve a level of technical risk. Small businesses with innovative science and technology solutions, and commercial potential are encouraged to apply. All proposals submitted to the NSF SBIR/STTR program, also known as America’s Seed Fund powered by NSF, undergo a rigorous merit-based review process.
