META PARTNERSHIP EXTENSION WITH THE NBA INVOLVES XTADIUM

NBA Partnership

Thanks to the immersive power of VR, you can enjoy all the action and suspense of a live game from the comfort of your couch—on us. And today, we’re excited to announce Meta and the NBA have extended their league partnership, which includes bringing the experience of basketball in VR to a new level with Meta Quest, the official VR headset of the NBA and WNBA. Basketball fans can now catch 52 live NBA games in VR during the current season for free, dive into a new immersive always-on fan experience, and express their fandom across Meta’s apps and technologies by dressing their Meta Avatars in NBA apparel. In the future, they’ll also be able to enjoy NBA League Pass in a social VR experience—all on Meta Quest. First up, and new for 2023, fans will be able to watch upcoming NBA match-ups in Xtadium* on the Meta Quest Platform. Xtadium offers high-definition video and the ability to host private watch parties with friends. And in the future, NBA fans will be able to watch even more content with their NBA League Pass subscription. Learn more about Xtadium here. Last but not least, Meta is partnering with the league to launch NBA-licensed apparel in Meta’s Avatar Store in the coming weeks. Fans will be able to purchase their favorite NBA or WNBA team apparel for their Meta Avatar and showcase it across Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and on the Meta Quest Platform. “Meta’s immersive VR technology is opening up new opportunities for sports fans to engage and interact with their favorite NBA teams,” says Meta Director of Sports Media and League Partnerships Rob Shaw. “Fans will be able to express their fandom by donning their favorite team’s gear on Avatars and enjoy more live NBA games and experience NBA League Pass in a much more social and immersive way. The NBA is always pushing us to innovate and leverage the latest technology to open the door to new fan experiences, and this chapter of our partnership certainly achieves exactly that.” “VR’s superpower is making it possible to immerse yourself in shared experiences with friends and fans from around the world, and we’re thrilled to bring these killer features to the NBA Arena and live games,” adds Meta Director of Metaverse Media Content Sarah Malkin. Whether you want to watch NBA League Pass in Xtadium, hang out with friends and play mini-games in Worlds, or just express your team pride across Meta’s apps and technologies, we’ve got you covered.
